Sponsored by Congressmen Alcee Hastings, Vern Buchanan, Dave Trott, and Brenden F. Boyle - H.R. 1406, The Dog and Meat Prohibition Act, initiated by the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, and supported by the Humane Society, currently has 212 Co-sponsors.

If passed the bill will prohibit any person to knowingly ship, transport, move, deliver, receive, possess, purchase, sell, or donate a dog or cat to be slaughtered for human consumption; or dog or cat parts for human consumption. Currently, the bill is stuck in the House Committee of Agriculture, where it is being opposed by committee head Mike Conaway.

H.R. 1406 is extremely important to all the groups working tirelessly to end the dog meat trade in Asia. "We want the message to be sent worldwide that human consumption of dog and cat meat is unacceptable everywhere, not only in Asia," said AHWF founder Marc Ching.
